It’s the first week of January and so far I’ve had a fantastic 2017! I went up to Mt. Hood, Oregon for a weekend with Margaret, one of my best friends on the planet, and had such a great time! There were over 15 feet of snow when we got there, and as you could probably guess, it was gorgeous with all of the tall evergreens covered in snow and sun shining. It was a bummer that I forgot my camera!
On New Year’s Eve, we went snowshoeing, which was quite the workout since there was so much snow. We took in the beautiful scenery and ran into a mini igloo someone had made. We were freezing by the time we got back to the cabin so we warmed ourselves by the cozy fire.
The rest of the night was pretty laid back: We ate a delicious New Year’s meal, played mafia (A.K.A. the best game on the planet), looked at fail texts on Pinterest, and just had a good ol’ time.
When it got close to midnight, we got into our snow gear and counted down the seconds ’til midnight. We rang bells on the front porch while the neighbors let off dozens of colorful fireworks. It started to snowing lightly and fresh powder covered the ground. Margaret and I got the sleds and headed down to Steep Street, a little sledding hill by the cabin. We sledded until one in the morning and had a blast! After that, we passed out after the eventful day.
Margaret and I woke up to see it was still snowing almost eight hours later! (Apparently, we got around nine feet of snow that night!) We went sledding again that morning in all of the soft, fresh powder, and then walked down to the Huckleberry Inn where we indulged in some amazing biscuits and gravy for breakfast. My first day of 2017 couldn’t have been any more perfect!
I would love to hear how you all celebrated New Years, so let me know in the comments!
Anywho, today’s post is all about making the most of the New Year. It’s a time for new beginnings, new mindsets, and new goals. I will be sharing some of my favorite tips on how to achieve your resolutions and make this year count!
Alrighty folks, I hope you enjoy this post and that you will be inspired to make the most out of your 2017!
Now, let’s get to the point of this post: how to make this year, your year. If you had a rough 2016 and/or are looking for some advice on how to make this year the best it can possibly be, then you, my friend, are in the right place. I’m here today to help you all start this year on the right track!
1. Get into that growth mindset
The first key to success this year is getting your head in the game. Being in the right mindset is a *must* if you want to achieve your goals this year.
2. Listen to uplifting music.
Another great way to start off the year on a good note is by listening to some of your favorite music! Singing and dancing along to your favorite songs is scientifically proven to uplift your spirits, so I definitely recommend signing up for Spotify, iTunes, or Pandora so that you can listen to your music anytime you want!
Also, I have a bunch of pre-made playlists on my Spotify (@its_oliviagrace) if you’d like to follow and listen!
3. Treat yourself
If you have ever had a rough week at school or work in the past, you know that feeling of relief you get when that week finally comes to an end. There will be weeks like that in 2017, no doubt, so don’t forget to take time for yourself! Treat yourself to a sweet treat occasionally. Take a warm bath with a fizzy bath bomb. Heck, take an off-day every now and then. It feels great to have a break, and you feel a heck of a lot better afterward!
Journaling is a great way to track your personal growth throughout this year. You can write daily, weekly, or even monthly – whatever works for you! Keeping a journal is really therapeutic to just write in, and it’s a great way to track your progress on your New Years resolutions!
5. Do what you love
If you have a special talent or hobby you want to start up this year, go for it! Do what makes you happy! Also, spend time with the people that mean the most to you. It’s good to be around others who you have a strong connection with, and it makes for some fun times and great memories!
6. Try new things
This year, go outside your comfort zone or try something that you’ve never done before! You might just find a new hobby, or at lease make some fun memories while you’re at it.
Having a clean environment gives off so many good vibes that will help you this year! Take a little time every now and then to tidy things up around your room and house. It will leave you more relaxed and likely to get stuff done with a fresh, clean environment.
8. Chill out
End your busy day by doing something to unwind yourself. I love to read after a long day, but you can do whatever your heart calls you to do! Just take a little time to relax – whether that’s taking a little catnap every now and then or watching your favorite series on Netflix. That way you will release stress so the rest of your week isn’t so hectic.
9. Try to be the person you have always wanted to be
Do you ever imagine the person you want to become someday? Maybe that person is more responsible and knows how to manage their time effectively. Or maybe their more possitive and focus on the good things in life. You don’t have to wait to become the person you’ve always wanted to become. Why not try to be them now?
10. Live in the moment
In life, every moment counts! You can’t go back in time to fix things (at least not right now while time travel machines haven’t been invented). When you’re old and retired, are you going to think “wow, I lived a good life” or “man I wish I could have done more?” Don’t hesitate to make the most out of each moment, because you can never replay that moment again!
Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you all are having a great 2017 so far and that these tips inspired you to make the most out of your year! I will see you guys next week for more lifestyle posts on Liv A Little! Bye!
